MALIGNANT

In 2021 I was tasked to help a team of artists with designing and editing promotional content intended for social media. The film was "Malignant" directed by James Wan.

For this post, I played around with the idea of hiding the video frame and later revealing that the whole thing was part of the promo. I created the video edit, rotoscoped the characters, and animated the particles at the end.

I liked the idea of having text behind the subject during her door push scene, but the 1x1 frame wouldn't allow the text to be visible enough to read. To fix this, I animated the horizontal position of the footage in sync with each "push" of the door, and it came out great.

I tracked the camera and comped + animated the text.

Again, the 1x1 frame wouldn't allow the text I created to be visible in this shot, so I animated a pan in order to fix it.

This is an alternate promo edit with one of my text animations for the film that I cut.

THE MATRIX: RESURRECTIONS

For the new Matrix sequel, I was once again tasked with experimenting with promo concepts for social.

For this post, I designed + animated the opening "type" animation and the matrix code "distortion" transition.

I recut the original trailer and added in text animations paired with some distortion transitions.

This one was hard to sell. I thought of having the footage embedded in the matrix code would work, but feedback was that it was hard to tell what the video was.

This was my alternate design.
